What is the Sophia Foundation?
Virginia Gilmore established the Sophia Foundation, as a supporting organization under the Fond du Lac Area Foundation, in 2002. The Sophia Foundation lives its vision of creating caring community by providing programs that are in alignment with the core principles and values of the organization.
The Sophia Foundation believes caring community asks individuals, as well as, institutions to co-create communities where Robert Greenleaf’s credo “caring for persons, the more able and the less able serving each other” can become reality. The vision of the Sophia Foundation is to create a caring community where leaders and citizens gather to learn and serve; where they foster hope and explore meaningful possibilities together for all people. As a foundation, we use our resources to facilitate and host teaching and learning programs that connect community members through a dedication to leadership that builds and sustains a more caring community in the Fond du Lac area.

This program is designed for individuals who want to deepen their servant leadership journey with a core group of highly supportive dedicated servant-leaders over the period of a year. The program includes nine 90-minute tele-circles (a phone call that is intentionally a “circle” so that every person has an opportunity to speak and be deeply heard) each focusing on a theme of servant leadership.
